…During the Muromachi period, the father and son Gon Chunagon Masayo and Gon Dainagon Masachika (1417-90) contributed greatly to the development of waka poetry, with Masayo being the editor of the Shinshoku Kokinshu, and Masachika writing the Asukai Family Method, Waka Do Guide, and Waka Nyūshō. Masachika also excelled in calligraphy, and his family tradition is called the Asukai style, or Eiga style after Masachika's posthumous name.
