…During the Muromachi period, the father and son Gon Chunagon Masayo and Gon Dainagon Masachika (1417-90) contributed greatly to the development of waka poetry, with Masayo being the editor of the Shinshoku Kokinshu, and Masachika writing the Asukai Family Method, Waka Do Guide, and Waka Nyūshō. Masachika also excelled in calligraphy, and his family tradition is called the Asukai style, or Eiga style after Masachika's posthumous name. After that, generations of his family served at the Imperial Court and Sento waka ceremonies and kemari societies, and even after the Meiji Restoration, he worked hard to preserve this art, and was awarded the title of count when the Peerage Act was enacted in 1884. …

…室町時代には権中納言雅世，権大納言雅親(1417‐90)父子が歌道の発展に尽くし，雅世は《新続古今集》の撰者となり，雅親も《飛鳥井家式法》《和歌道しるべ》《和歌入学抄》などを著した。また雅親は書道にも秀でて一家をなし，その流れを飛鳥井流あるいは雅親の法名にちなんで栄雅流ともいう。その後も代々禁裏･仙洞の和歌御会や蹴鞠会等に奉仕し，明治維新後も斯道の保存に尽力し，1884年華族令の制定に当たって伯爵を授けられた。…
