Born: September 4, 1850, Pallanza, Piedmont [Died] December 21, 1928. Bordighera, Liguria. Italian army officer. During World War I, he was chief of staff and in charge of operations against Austria on the eastern border, but was dismissed after being held responsible for the disastrous defeat at the Battle of Caporetto in the autumn of 1917, and retired in 1918.
