Sui tribe (water tribe) - Suizoku (English spelling) Shuǐ zú
An ethnic minority found in the southeastern part of Guizhou Province and the northwestern part of the Guangxi Dong Autonomous Region. Population 347,100 (1990). The largest population is in Sandu Sui Autonomous County, Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. There are also some in Nandan County and Da Miaoshan Miao Autonomous County in Guangxi. They call themselves Ai Sui. The Han Chinese call them Shuijia. Their language is a member of the Kham group of Tai languages, and is similar to the Dong language. Only shamans use the pictographic-style Shuiji (ancient script) for divination.

中国の貴州省東南部,広西トン(侗)族自治区西北部に分布する少数民族。人口34万7100(1990)。最多集居地区は貴州省黔南(けんなん)プイ(布依)族ミヤオ(苗)族自治州の三都スイ族自治県。そのほか広西の南丹県・大苗山ミヤオ族自治県に若干分布する。自称アイ・スイ。漢族は水家と呼称。言語系統は,タイ諸語のうちのカム語群の系統に属し,トン語と近似する。巫師のみが占卜用に絵文字風の水字(古老文字)を用いた。
