Human hair is divided into relatively thick, long hairs that grow on the skin of specific parts of the body, such as head hair, beard hair, armpit hair, pubic hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, nose hair, and ear hair, and thin, short vellus hairs that are found all over the body. However, hair is absent in areas with particularly thick epidermis, such as the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, and also in the skin-mucosa transition areas of the lips and vulva.
