During the first nine months in the Netherlands, he devoted himself to metaphysical speculation, but after a report of a sun-like phenomenon observed in Rome, he switched to studying natural science, and in 1833 he completed his Cosmology, consisting of On Light and On Man. However, upon learning of Galileo's condemnation in the same year, he gave up on publishing it, and instead published three tentative works, On Refraction, On Meteorology, and On Geometry, with a preface, Discourse on Method, in 1837. …
