Negative afterimage

...This refers to the visual effect that occurs when you gaze at a stimulus for a certain period of time, then close your eyes or look away. There are two types of afterimages: positive afterimages and negative afterimages. A positive afterimage occurs when the original stimulus is strong and short-lived, and the light and dark are in the same direction. A negative afterimage is one in which the light and dark are reversed, and the hue is often complementary. Afterimages can also be projected onto a flat surface at any distance in the outside world.
