[Mechanism of secretion]
(1) Holocrine secretion: The secretion fills the cytoplasm, the nucleus shrinks, and finally the entire cell dies, becoming a secretion that is excreted. This is seen in sebaceous glands and tarsal glands. (2) Apocrine secretion: The secretion formed in the glandular cell gathers on the free surface of the cell and protrudes (these protrusions are called apocrine processes), eventually causing the base of the process to narrow and break off, falling into the glandular cavity. This is seen in the apocrine sweat glands of the armpits, ear canal glands, and mammary glands.
