Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

The Committee was established by the resolution "International Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space" at the 14th General Assembly in December 1959. The Committee's mission is to consider practical methods and legal matters for implementing plans for the peaceful use of outer space, including assistance for space research and the exchange of information, and to submit reports on these activities to the General Assembly. The Committee has established the Science and Technology Subcommittee and the Legal Subcommittee to study international cooperation in science and technology and legal issues, respectively. The Legal Subcommittee has drafted the Outer Space Bodies Treaty (1966), the Astronaut Rescue and Return Agreement (67), the Liability Treaty (71), the Registration Treaty (74), and the Moon Agreement (79), all of which are now in force.

1959年 12月国連第 14回総会で，「宇宙空間の平和利用に関する国際協力」と題する決議によって設置された委員会。同委員会の任務は，宇宙空間研究に対する援助，情報の交換などを含む宇宙空間平和利用計画実施のための実際的方法および法律事項の審議を行い，これらの活動の報告を国連総会に提出することである。科学技術面の国際協力および法律問題をそれぞれ専門的に検討するために，科学技術小委員会および法律小委員会が設置されている。法律小委員会はこれまで宇宙天体条約 (1966) ，宇宙飛行士救助・帰還協定 (67) ，宇宙損害責任条約 (71) ，宇宙物体登録条約 (74) ，月協定 (79) を作成し，いずれもすでに発効している。
