The reduced pentose phosphate cycle, also known as the Calvin-Benson cycle, is the carbon dioxide fixation cycle that corresponds to the light reaction of photosynthesis. It consists of the following three steps. 1. Three molecules of CO 2 react with three molecules of ribulose-1.5-bisphosphate (RuBP) to produce six molecules of 3-phosphoglycerate. 2. This is reduced by six molecules of ATP and NADPH to produce six molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (GAP). 3. Three molecules of ribulose-5-phosphate are produced from five molecules of GAP, and RuBP is regenerated in the process. Sucrose is produced from some of the GAP produced in the reduction step, and three molecules of ATP and two molecules of NADPH are required to convert one molecule of CO 2 into carbohydrate. This cycle is localized in the stroma of chloroplasts. → Related items C 3 Plants Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
