The term "Yashikigami" is an academic term, and in reality, depending on the region, it is called Ujigami, Uchigami, Chijin (earth god), Koujin, Iwaijin (celebratory god), and various other names, such as Inari and Kumano, depending on the deity worshipped. The variety of names for Yashikigami indicates the advancement of kanjo-gami, and is presumably indicative of the activities of those who transmit the faith, such as ascetics and shrine maidens.
