Styrene-butadiene rubber

Japanese: スチレン･ブタジエンゴム（英語表記）styrene‐butadiene rubber

Abbreviation: SBR. Synthetic rubber obtained by copolymerizing styrene and butadiene. It is the most widely produced and used type of synthetic rubber, and is a general-purpose synthetic rubber used in most rubber products, including automobile tires. It was researched and industrialized in Germany in the 1930s, and was sold under the name Buna S. During the Pacific War, it was mass-produced and used in the United States for military purposes under the name GR-S as part of the government-managed Government Synthetic Rubber Program.

略称SBR。スチレンとブタジエンを共重合させて得られる合成ゴム。合成ゴムの中で最も多く生産，使用されている代表的な品種で，自動車タイヤをはじめほとんどのゴム製品に使用される汎用合成ゴムである。1930年代にドイツで研究，工業化されブナS(Buna S)の商品名で市販された。太平洋戦争中はアメリカにおいて政府管理のGovernment Synthetic Rubber Programにより軍需用にGR‐Sの名称で大量に生産，使用された。
