The Etrian Uprising gained the support of the Greeks and other Balkan peoples, but when the Tsar repudiated the uprising, he lost morale, and after a battle with the Turkish army at Drǎgǎşani in Wallachia, he fled to Transylvania, where he was imprisoned by Metternich in the fortress of Munkács (now Mukačevo).
