Otogi-zoshi. Illustrated scroll, 3 volumes. Also known as the "Twelve Gods Picture," "Twelve Categories," and "Twelve Battles Picture," many copies of this scroll have been handed down, including variants produced in the early modern period. It is not just a variant, but a masterpiece of an illustrated scroll. An article on the "Twelve Gods Picture" that was in the Shogun's household appears again in the "Kanmon Nikki" (June 8, 1438, Eikyou 10, April 4, 1441), and the "Three Volumes of the Twelve Categories" appears in the "Setsutsuna Goki" (September 6, 1449, Hōtoku 1). In recent years, the back of the paper of "Kokawa-dera Engi" by Go-Sukō-in (Fushiminomiya Family Documents, copied in 1452 (Kyōtoku 1)) has been found to contain inscriptions such as the beginning of the scroll, which had previously been missing, and the background and date of the production of this elegant Tosa school illustrated scroll have become almost clear.
