Mr. Kato

Japanese: 加藤氏 - かとううじ

Fujiwara family name. Fujiwara Kagemichi, a descendant of the Chinjufu Shogun Fujiwara Toshihito, became Kaga no Suke and was the first to use the name Kato. His grandson Kagekazu and his son Kagekazu served Minamoto no Yoritomo, and Kagekazu's descendants Mitsuyasu and Yoshiaki became daimyo under Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Later, during the Edo period, Sadayasu ruled over Ozu in Iyo, and Akitomo ruled over Minakuchi in Omi. From then on, the descendants inherited the title and became viscounts in the Meiji period. Also, Kiyomasa, who was born in Nakamura, Aichi County, Owari Province, served Toyotomi Hideyoshi from a young age and achieved many military feats, and later joined the Tokugawa side in the Battle of Sekigahara and was awarded 520,000 koku in Higo, but was stripped of his title in 1632 during the time of his son Tadahiro.

藤原姓。鎮守府将軍藤原利仁の子孫藤原景通が加賀介となって，初めて加藤と号した。孫の景員，その子景廉は源頼朝に仕え，景廉の子孫光泰，嘉明は，豊臣秀吉のもとで大名。のち江戸時代には，貞泰は伊予大洲，明友は近江水口を領した。以後，子孫世襲して明治にいたり子爵。また，尾張国愛智郡中村出身の清正は幼少より豊臣秀吉に仕えて数多くの戦功を立て，のち関ヶ原の戦いに徳川方に属し肥後 52万石を領するにいたったが，その子忠広のとき，寛永9 (1632) 年除封された。
