Edinburgh Arts Festival

...Some are older, such as the Music Drama Festival of Orange in southern France, which dates back to the end of the 19th century, but many began after World War II. The first festivals were the Avignon Theater Festival in southern France (since 1947) and the Edinburgh Arts Festival in England (since 1947), which are held every summer and were started by J. Villard. These festivals are now the largest in scale and have been successful internationally. Since then, most have been held in the summer in the outdoors of old towns, old castles, temples, etc. in Europe and the United States.
