1927‐ Austrian pianist. Studied under E. Fischer. Made his debut in 1948 and performed at the Edinburgh and Salzburg music festivals. Since 1960, he has been teaching at the Vienna Festival Week with J. Demuth and A. Brendel, and has also been active in education. His repertoire is centered on works of the Viennese classical period. He has edited scores of Mozart and Schubert, and written many books on piano music, including Beethoven's Piano Sonatas - Performance and Interpretation (1970, translated into Japanese in 1970).
