The first newspaper published in America. It was published in Boston on September 25, 1690. It had four pages, the last of which was left blank so that subscribers could use it as a newsletter to send to their local areas. The publisher was Benjamin Harris, who had been a Whig journalist in England but had emigrated to America after a literary scandal and opened a coffee shop and bookstore in Boston. Although the newspaper was modern in both format and content, it contained scandalous articles about the French king that were anathema to the authorities, and it was banned after just one issue.

アメリカで発行された最初の新聞。1690年9月25日ボストンで発行された。4ページ建ての最後のページは空白で，ニューズ･レター用として購買者が地方へ送る通信に利用できるようにしてあった。発行者はイギリスでホイッグ系ジャーナリストとして活躍していたが，筆禍にあってアメリカに移住し，ボストンでコーヒー店，本屋を開いていたハリスBenjamin Harris。形態，内容ともに近代的な新聞であったが，フランス王のスキャンダル記事などが当局の忌諱に触れ，たった1号で発行を禁止された。
