...In the fisheries industry, salmon farming is on the rise. Ukedo Port once flourished as a port for the import and export of goods, with ships of the Sengoku variety calling at the port, but it is now a base for coastal fishing. During the peak salmon fishing season in October and November, the port is bustling with several thousand tourists a day, and in 1993 a multi-purpose leisure facility called Marine Park Namie was opened, complete with a planetarium, accommodation, tennis courts, and more.
