Gumai-ki

This is the diary of Sanjo Sanefusa (1147-1225), a nobleman from the end of the Heian period to the early Kamakura period. Only the contents of the diary, covering the period from 1166 (Jin'an 1) to 1195 (Kenkyu 6), are known. The author was promoted to the position of Minister of the Left in 1190 (Kenkyu 1), and became a monk in 1196. The name was likely a sign of Sanefusa's modesty. It has been highly valued since ancient times as it contains many very detailed records of court ceremonies, and there are many copies from the Edo period. It is a historical resource on a par with the contemporary Gyokuyo in terms of learning about trends around the court, and on the back of the original (a nationally designated Important Cultural Property) are court documents from the Kebiishi-no-cho office.

平安末期～鎌倉初期の公卿(くぎょう)三条実房(さねふさ)（1147―1225）の日記。1166年（仁安1）より95年（建久6）までの間で19年分だけが伝わる。著者は1190年（建久(けんきゅう)1）に左大臣に上り96年には出家した。名称は実房自身の謙遜(けんそん)であろう。朝廷の儀式の記録が多く非常に詳しいので古来珍重され、江戸時代の写本が多い。朝廷周辺の動向を知るうえで同時代の『玉葉(ぎょくよう)』などと並ぶ史料であり、原本（国指定重要文化財）の紙背には検非違使庁(けびいしのちょう)の裁判文書などがある。
