A large number of tree roots were discovered on the seabed during the construction of a fishing port in Uozu City, Toyama Prefecture, facing Toyama Bay. They are a special national natural monument. There were more than 150 large and small tree roots, including a large tree with a diameter of 6m and estimated to be 1000 years old. According to an appraisal, about 90% of them are cedar trees, which are naturally weak to sea breezes, so these traces of natural forests are valuable as they tell us that the land in the coastal area subsided and the sea level rose. There is an exhibition facility called the Uozu Buried Forest Museum near the excavation site. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
