...When the novelist Kim Hyung-jun (born in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province) published his novel "Soul of a Maiden," he composed a violin piece entitled "Sorrow" and placed the sheet music on the cover of the book. Upon seeing the beautiful melody, musician Kim Hyung-jun wrote the lyrics, "Oh Balsam blooming in the shade of the fence, you look pitiful" (first half of the first stanza), as a metaphor for the unjust situation the Korean people found themselves in at the time. After the famous soprano Kim Cheon-ae sang this piece in her unique, almost crazy style, it spread throughout the country. ...
