...These works are noted for their connection with the linear decorative principles of the Glasgow genius Mackintosh. The influence of the Vienna Werkstätte and Scotland, particularly Mackintosh's spatial treatment, was so strong that Fritz Wendorfer, the financial backer of the Wiener Werkstätte, sent a group of craftsmen to Scotland to learn local crafts on the spot. In other words, even though the Vienna Werkstätte attempted to break away from past styles, the principles on which the Vienna Werkstätte was based were parallel to the trend of transformation from curved Art Nouveau to linear Art Nouveau, and were not original principles of design. ...
