Sumatra short‐eared rabbit
A mammal of the family Leporidae in the order Lagomorpha. It is a rabbit with short ears that are less than half the length of its head, and is found only in the mountainous areas of southwestern Sumatra. It is 35-40 cm long and has almost no tail, measuring about 1.5 cm. Its coat color is unique, with a pale yellow-gray background and a dark brown stripe pattern. It lives in tropical rainforests in mountains (altitude 600-1400 m), hiding in holes dug by other animals on the forest floor during the day. It is nocturnal and feeds on young shoots, stems, and leaves. Its breeding habits are unknown. It is an extremely rare species with only 13 specimens, and there have been no records of it being captured in recent years.
