A vine of the Aristolochiaceae family with around 300 species distributed from temperate to tropical regions around the world. Several species from Central and South America are cultivated for greenhouse decoration because of their unusual flowers. Pipe vines are native to Brazil, and their flowers have an unpleasant odor and grow single in the leaf axils. The flowers are white with complex purple markings. They have no petals, and what look like petals are actually modified calyxes. They are propagated by seed and cuttings. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
