Aristolochia

A vine of the Aristolochiaceae family with around 300 species distributed from temperate to tropical regions around the world. Several species from Central and South America are cultivated for greenhouse decoration because of their unusual flowers. Pipe vines are native to Brazil, and their flowers have an unpleasant odor and grow single in the leaf axils. The flowers are white with complex purple markings. 世界の温帯から熱帯に300種ほどが分布する，ウマノスズクサ科のつる植物。珍奇な花が咲くので中南米産の数種が温室装飾用に栽培される。パイプカズラはブラジル原産で，花に不快な臭気があり，伸びた葉腋に１花をつける。花色は白色地に紫の複雑な斑紋が入る。花弁はなく，花弁状に見えるのは，萼の変化したもの。実生(みしょう)およびさし木でふやす。
