Masaki Uehara (2nd generation)
Born: December 10, 1903, Nihonbashi, Tokyo
[Died] May 11, 1996. Tokyo, Shinagawa Yamada school koto performer and composer. Real name Hayashi Usagiko. Daughter of Uehara Masaki 1st. Adopted daughter of the Hayashi family. Her father Masaki became a disciple of Asai Senzoku, a student of Chiyoda Kengyo of the Yamada school, at the age of 9, and at the age of 21, became a disciple of Okumura Masako, who was also known as a master of the shamisen and performed at a vaudeville show around the beginning of the Meiji era. He became his successor and founded the Mamagoto-kai. She learned koto and shamisen from her father from an early age. She also studied Nagauta under Kioneya Jōkan 2nd (Kineya Rokushiro 3rd), Kawatobushi under Yamabiko Hideko, and Itchūbushi under Kanno Nobu. After her father's death in 1933, she succeeded the second generation and became the second president of the Mamagoto-kai. She was particularly skilled in songs, showed deep flavor, and was highly praised for her shamisen skills. From 1960, he received the Encouragement Award at the Art Festival for four consecutive years, and in 1965, he received the Art Festival Award. In 1970, he was recognized as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure), and in 1983, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy. He has close ties with the second generation Kioneka Jokan and the second generation Takahashi Eisei, who was from the same school. He also co-hosted the "Society for Preserving the Tradition of Koto Music" with the cooperation of the first generation Yonekawa Fumiko of the Ikuta school and scholars. His works include "Akiko Sho," "Yamata no Orochi," "Yodo-gime Emaki," "Dojoji Kurokami Kuyo," and "Kaguyama ni Noborite."

山田流箏曲家,作曲家。本名林兎喜子。1世上原真佐喜の娘。林家の養女。父真佐喜は,9歳の頃山田流の千代田検校門下の浅井千束に入門し,21歳のとき三弦の名手としても知られ明治初年頃寄席にも出たという奥村真佐古の門に入り,その後継者となり,真磨琴会(ままごとかい)を創立した。その父に幼少より箏,三弦を学ぶ。また 2世稀音家浄観(3世杵屋六四郎)に長唄,山彦秀子に河東節,菅野のぶに一中節を師事する。父の没後 1933年に 2世を継承,真磨琴会の 2代会長となる。特に歌物に優れ,深い味わいを表し,三味線の技量でも高い評価を得ていた。1960年より 4年連続芸術祭賞奨励賞受賞,1965年には芸術祭賞を得た。1970年重要無形文化財保持者(人間国宝)に認定され,1983年には日本芸術院会員となった。2世稀音家浄観と同門の 2世高橋栄清と交流が深い。また生田流の 1世米川文子と学者の協力を得ながら共催して「箏曲の伝統を守る会」を行なった。作品には『晶子抄』『八岐大蛇』『淀君絵巻』『道成寺黒髪供養』『香具山にのぼりて』などがある。
