...A private railway with 91.5 km (1997) of lines in Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture. Formerly Keisei Electric Tramway, founded in 1909, it changed its name to its current name in 1945. Its main line runs between Keisei Ueno and Narita Airport, and in addition to the Chiba Line between Keisei Tsudanuma and Chiba Chuo, it also has the Oshiage Line, Kanamachi Line, and Higashi-Narita Line. The 2.1 km section leading to Narita Airport belongs to the Narita Airport Rapid Transit Line, and is operated as a second-class railway business. The terminal stations at Keisei Ueno, Oshiage, and Narita Airport are all underground, and the section between Keisei Ueno and Nippori, completed in 1958, was the first underground line in Tokyo for a suburban private railway to enter the city center. *Some of the terminology that refers to the Ueno Line is listed below.
