Nakaumi
A lagoon (→lagoon) surrounded by the Shimane Peninsula in northeastern Shimane Prefecture and Yumigahama in northwestern Tottori Prefecture. It is also called "Nakanoumi". It is connected to the Sea of ​​Japan by the Sakai Channel and Lake Shinji by the Ohashi River. It is a brackish lake where seawater and freshwater mix. It occupies the eastern part of the Shinji Graben, has a circumference of 105 km, an area of ​​86.2 km2 , and a maximum depth of 8.4 m. Daikon Island and Ejima Island are located in the center, and there are ports such as Matsue (Magata), Yasugi, and Yonago along the coast. In the past, shrimp, eels, mullet, and black porgy were caught here, but today there is almost no fishing. Reclamation began in 1968, and a desalination project was planned along with reclamation, but pollution of the lake became a problem, and it was decided to reclamate it in 2000 and to cancel the desalination project in 2002. It was registered under the Ramsar Convention in 2005.

島根県北東部の島根半島と,鳥取県北西部の弓ヶ浜に囲まれた潟湖(→潟)。「なかのうみ」ともいう。境水道で日本海と,大橋川で宍道湖と結ばれる。海水と淡水の入り混じる汽水湖である。宍道地溝帯の東部を占め,周囲 105km,面積 86.2km2,最大水深 8.4m。中央に大根島,江島などがあり,沿岸に松江(馬潟),安来,米子などの港がある。かつてはエビ,ウナギ,ボラ,クロダイなどの漁獲があったが今日ではほとんどない。1968年から埋め立てが始められ,干拓とともに淡水化事業が計画されたが,湖の汚染が問題となり,2000年に干拓,2002年には淡水化の中止が決定した。2005年ラムサール条約に登録。
