...A general term for fossil plants found in the Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous systems (160 to 96 million years ago) distributed in the outer zone of Japan, including Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Chiba, Saitama, Gunma, Yamanashi, Nagano, Mie, Wakayama, Tokushima, Kochi, and Kumamoto prefectures. More accurately, it should be called the Ryoseki-type flora. Ryoseki comes from the name of a place in Nankoku City, Kochi Prefecture. The first study of this flora was conducted in 1890 by Swedish geologist Alfred Gabriel Nathorst (1850-1921). *Some of the terminology that refers to the "Wealden type flora" is listed below.
