Also written as Kasuya or Kasuya. A medieval samurai family whose main territory was Kasuya-sho in Sagami Province. According to the family tree in the Zoku Gunsho Ruiju, the family was born in Kasuya-sho by Fujiwara no Yoshikata's son Motokata, who had been sent down to Sagami Province as the "Province of Sagami Province," and took the name Kasuya Taro, but the authenticity of this is unclear. Motokata's son Morisue was called Kasuya-shoji, and Morisue's grandson Morihisa was called Kasuya Gonnokami, so the Kasuya clan was both the manor official of Kasuya-sho and also had ties to the provincial government. Morihisa joined the Heike side when Minamoto no Yoritomo raised his army in 1180 (Jisho 4), and his son Arisue is seen in the army to pursue the Heike in 1184 (Genryaku 1), so it is safe to say that the Kasuya clan was added to the ranks of Kamakura vassals by this time.
