[Died] July 30, 2013. Sociologist of religion in Oakland, California. He proposed an innovative approach to reconcile traditional religious societies with social change. He studied anthropology at Harvard University, and received his PhD in sociology and East Asian languages ​​in 1955. He conducted research at the Institute for Islamic Studies at McGill University in Canada and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University. He studied in Japan from 1960 to 1961 on a Fulbright scholarship. He returned to Harvard in 1961 and served as Ford Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley from 1967 to 1997. He was named the Elliott Professor of Sociology Emeritus at the University of California in 1997. His publications include Beyond Belief: Essays on Religion in a Post-Traditional World (1970), Varieties of Civil Religion (1980, co-author), Habits of the Heart (1985, co-author), and Religion in Human Evolution: From the Paleolithic to the Axial Age (2011). In 2000, he was awarded the National Literature Medal.

Born May 12, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. American professional baseball player. His real name was Lawrence Peter Berra. Yogi was a childhood nickname given to him by a friend because he resembled an Indian snake charmer in a movie. In 1942, he signed with the New York Yankees of major league baseball. After playing in the minor leagues and serving in the military, he was promoted to the major leagues at the end of the 1946 season. He mostly played as an outfielder until 1949, but then became the team's starting catcher until 1963. He excelled both defensively and offensively, and was named the American League's Most Valuable Player (MVP) three times in 1951, 1954, and 1955. He also played in the World Series 14 times, hitting a total of 12 home runs. Berra's unique, humorous, and illogical expressions (for example, "Baseball is 90% mental strength and the other half physical strength") were called "Yogi-isms" and were loved by fans. After his retirement, he continued to work as a manager and coach. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.
