A former town in Katsuta County, located in the northeastern part of Okayama Prefecture, in the Kajinami River basin, a tributary of the Yoshii River. Its main industries are agriculture and forestry, producing timber, tobacco, shiitake mushrooms, and mitsumata. The Kajinami area upstream is a vast forested area, and is also home to a woodworking village. In March 2005, it merged with Ohara Town, Mimasaka Town, Sakuto Town, Aida Town, and Higashiawakura Village in Aida County to become a city, Mimasaka City. 87.29 km2 . 3,891 people (2003).
