Indo-Aryan languages

…a branch of the Indo-European language family. This branch has a long history and a vast amount of literature, stretching from the Rig-Veda, estimated to date back to the 10th century BCE, to modern Indo-Aryan languages, and occupies a key position in comparative studies of this family. Its ancient layer, the Vedic language, is remarkably similar in every respect to the language of the Avesta, the oldest document of the neighboring Iranian language family, so it is thought that the two Indian and Iranian branches were united in prehistoric times.
