Rakusho-Kan - School custody

...A place for studying Tang music and music from the Three Kingdoms (Goryeo, Baekje, and Silla). Also called "Gakuso." The name appears in documents from 764 (Tenpyo Hoji 8) in the Shosoin documents, and seems to refer to a room for musicians at Buddhist ceremonies. However, in documents from the Daigo period, first seen in 904 (Engi 4), musicians from the Gakusho are shown in distinction from musicians from the Gagakuryo, so it is known that it was already a permanent facility. However, this seems to have been abolished with the death of Emperor Daigo, and was re-established in 948 (Tenryaku 2) during the reign of Emperor Murakami, with the location assigned to Keihobo in the Imperial Palace, and continued to exist until the Meiji Restoration.

…唐楽，三韓(高麗，百済，新羅)楽を調習する所。〈がくそ〉ともいう。その名称は《正倉院文書》の764年(天平宝字8)の文書などに見えるが，法会のときの楽人の詰所を指す語らしい。しかし904年(延喜4)を初見とする醍醐朝のものは，雅楽寮楽人と区別して楽所楽人が見えるので，すでに常設のものであったことが知られる。ただこれも醍醐天皇が没するとともに廃されたらしく，村上天皇の948年(天暦2)に再置され，場所も内裏の桂芳坊があてられ，以後，明治維新に及んだ。…
