This is a record written by Tamamushi Sadayu Yasushige, a servant of Niimi Masaoki, the envoy who ratified the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between the United States and Japan, upon his return from a trip to America in 1860 (Man'en 1). It consists of eight volumes. As a servant he did not attend the official ceremonies, but he was meticulous in his observations of other matters, and his judgments were objective and critical. Many copies have been handed down, and the published version is included in the Nihon Shiso Taikei. [Matsuura Rei] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
