...The name Atsushio is said to come from the hot water that gushes out within the village, and even today there is Atsushio Onsen (a pure salt spring, 61°C), as well as Jigenji Temple, which has a camellia-carved wooden lacquer scepter (an important cultural property). Kano is home to the Iwao Silver Mine, which was developed during the Keicho era (1596-1615), and was re-excavated as a copper mine during the Meiji era and was called the Kano Mine. There are also other mines, such as Yonaihata and Kuroiwa, and Kano flourished as a mining town. ...
