Kabuki actor. Stage name Yamatoya. Son of the 4th Iwai Hanshiro. Commonly known as Tojaku Hanshiro. In Bunka 1 (1804), he took the stage name of the 5th. He was beautiful and sexy, and was said to have eyes worth a thousand ryo. He was good at playing real-life dramas, and created the role of a wicked woman in the works of Tsuruya Nanboku. Although he was a female actor, he served as the head of a troupe.

歌舞伎俳優。屋号大和屋。4世岩井半四郎の子。俗に杜若 (とじゃく) 半四郎。文化1 (1804) 年5世を襲名。美貌で色気があり，眼千両といわれ，生世話物によく，鶴屋南北作品で悪婆役を創演。女方ながら座頭をつとめた。
