Iwai Hanshiro (4th generation)

Kabuki actor. Stage name Yamatoya. Son of puppeteer Tatsumatsu Juzaburo. Disciple of Ichikawa Danjūrō ​​IV. Along with Segawa Kikunojō III, he was a leading female actor in the Edo theater world during the Kansei period. He had a round face and a charming personality, and his stage performances were brilliant, leading to the nickname Otafuku Hanshiro. In partnership with Matsumoto Koshiro IV, he pioneered a new style of realistic acting in live-action dramas. All three of the Ichikawa Danjūrō ​​IV and Iwaiza were leading actors who also served as the head of the Osaka Iwaiza.
