Rishiri [town] - Rishiri
A town in northern Hokkaido, Rishiri District, occupying the western half of Rishiri Island. The fishing port of Kutsugata is the center of Rishiri kelp harvesting, and until around 1955, along with Senhoshi in the south, it was bustling with herring fishing. Currently, the town mainly harvests kelp, sea urchins, and abalone, and is engaged in fishing by fishing boats and netsuke. Area: 76.51 km2 . Population: 2,590 (2010). → Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park
