…また柱と柱の間で，壁下地を取り付けるために立てた小柱を間（ま）柱という。使用する場所によって名称が異なり，外回りの側（かわ）柱と，それより1間内側の入側（いりかわ）柱，身舎(母屋)（もや）･庇（ひさし）の別があるときはそれぞれ身舎(母屋)柱･庇柱，そのほか裳階（もこし）柱，向拝柱，門や塀における本柱と控柱などといい，同じ側柱でも隅柱とそれ以外の平柱を区別する。さらに建物の種類により，仏堂では外陣柱と内陣柱，仏壇後ろの来迎柱，塔では入側柱に相当する四天柱，相輪を支持する心柱(檫)，書院や民家における床の間の床柱，民家の中心的位置にある大黒柱，さらに特殊なものとして神社本殿で，神明造の妻側に離れて立つ棟持（むなもち）柱や，大社造の中心にあるうず柱などの名称がある。…
