Ranan

A city in the eastern part of North Hamgyong Province, North Korea. It is located at the southern end of the Yangtze River Plain, surrounded by hills on three sides, and opens up to the Yangtze River Plain in the northeast. Before liberation in 1945, it was the seat of the North Hamgyong Provincial Office and the Ranam 19th Division, but after liberation, the provincial office was moved to Chongjin City. In the suburbs are state-run fruit farms and local industrial enterprises for leather, pharmaceuticals, and food.

北朝鮮、咸鏡(かんきょう)北道東部にある都市。輸送平野の南端にあり、三面が丘陵に囲まれ、北東部は輸送平野に向けて開けている。1945年の解放前は咸鏡北道庁と羅南一九師団の所在地であったが、解放後は道庁所在地が清津(せいしん)市に移った。郊外には国営果樹農場と皮革、製薬、食品の地方工業企業体がある。
