The central area of the northeastern part of Kaizu City, Gifu Prefecture. Formerly Imao Town. Facing the Ibi River, it once served as a river port. It originated as a castle town built by Nakajima Shigenaga during the Bunmei era (1469-1487), and in the Edo period it was the residence of Takenokoshi, a chief retainer of the Owari Domain (30,000 koku). The Imao Sagicho festival, held in February, is a designated Important Intangible Cultural Property of the prefecture.
