A mole-like mammal of the insectivore family Soricoidae, found in Thailand, Myanmar, southern China, and Taiwan. It has a thick, round body, short limbs, and large front legs, though not as large as a mole, making it well suited to digging tunnels underground and living underground. Its eyes are very small and its tail is short. Its ears are small, but they can close to cover the ear holes and prevent dirt and other foreign objects from getting into their ears. Its fur is velvety and noticeably long around its waist. Its overall color is dark brown, but the ventral side is a slightly lighter color. Its body length is 8.5-11 cm, and its tail length is 0.7-1.7 cm.

タイ，ミャンマー，中国南部，台湾に分布する，姿がモグラに似た食虫目トガリネズミ科の哺乳類。胴が太く丸く，四肢が短く，モグラほどではないが前足が大きいなど地中にトンネルを掘って地下生活するのに適した体をしている。目はごく小さく，尾は短い。耳介は小さいが，閉じて耳孔をふさぎ土などの異物が耳に入るのを防ぐことができる。毛は，ビロード状で腰の部分が目だって長い。全体に暗褐色だが，腹側はやや淡色をしている。体長8.5～11cm，尾長0.7～1.7cm。
