...A herbalist in the mid-Edo period. His given name was Sengi, his pen name was Shoshin, his pen name was Wakamizu, and his common name was Shosuke, and he later changed his own name to Toujiyakusui. He was born in Edo to a Confucian physician, Ino Koken. In 1693 (6th Genroku), he was summoned by Maeda Tsunanori, the lord of Kaga Domain, as a Confucian scholar and herbalist. He aimed to compile a 1000-volume collection of Shobutsu Ruisan, and began the work under Tsunanori's patronage, but died after completing only 362 volumes. This is a collection of articles on plants and animals found in Chinese literature, and is a herbalist book with a strong tendency toward meibutsugaku and natural history. ...
