Boris Dmitrievich Grekov

A Soviet historian. He studied at the University of Warsaw and Moscow State University, and entered the academic world with his research on the social and economic history of Novgorod. After the Russian Revolution, he adopted the position of Marxist historiography and published many studies on the history of ancient Russia and the East Slavs. He explained that the East Slavs transitioned from a primitive communal society to feudalism without going through slavery, that ancient Russia in the 9th to 12th centuries had already reached a stage where agriculture was the basic productive activity, and that the ancient Russian state was not founded by the Normans but was the result of the inherent development of East Slavic society, and thus established the basic position of Soviet historiography on feudal Russia.

ソ連の歴史家。ワルシャワ大学、モスクワ大学に学び、ノブゴロドの社会、経済史に関する研究で学界に登場。ロシア革命後はマルクス主義史学の立場にたち、古代ロシアと東スラブ人の歴史に関する研究を多数発表した。彼は、東スラブ人が原始共同体社会から奴隷制を経ることなく封建制に移行したこと、9～12世紀の古代ロシアはすでに農耕を基本的生産活動とする段階に達していたこと、古代ロシア国家はノルマン人によって建国されたのではなく東スラブ人社会の内在的発展の結果成立したことなどを説き、封建制ロシアに関するソビエト史学の基本的立場を決定した。
