initial
Initial letters are the first letters of names, surnames, sentences, etc. The former are widely used as abbreviated signatures. The latter are commonly called flower letters, and were popular in Europe from the time of manuscripts in ancient and medieval times. With the development of printing technology, elaborately decorated special typefaces were created.
