…　また，近年の研究では，近世･近代の西欧諸国に起こった民衆反乱と暴動が，しばしば変装をともない，なかでも女装した男たちに率いられる例の多かったことが指摘されている。アメリカの歴史学者デービスNatalie Zemon Davis(1928‐　)は，フランス，イギリスなどでの具体的な事例によりつつ，そのような女装をした理由として，責任逃れのための実際的な便宜性(当時の社会では女は責任の当事者能力を認められず，それらの行動はたかが女のしたこととして見のがされることも多かったという)をまずあげた上で，同時にそれは，女というもう一つの性がもつ特有のエネルギーを利用しようとしていたのではないか，との説を述べている(《近代初期フランスの社会と文化》1975)。この点日本においても，(女装ではないが)蓑笠（みのかさ），柿帷（かきかたびら）などの一揆における特有の服装のあり方が，近年しばしば論議されており，いずれにせよ興味深い問題であるということができる。…
