Also known simply as gilt edged securities, the term is derived from the gold-bordered edges of the 1694 eight-percent interest-bearing government bonds. A bond issued by the British central government listed on the London Stock Exchange. It can also include bonds issued by local authorities, public corporations, and the central, local and public governments and corporations of Commonwealth countries. It does not usually include Treasury Bills (TBs). The most representative type of government bond was the Consol bond, which was established in the 1850s, but before World War I, Consols made up the majority of government bonds. 単にギルト・エッジともいい,金縁(きんぶち)証券と訳す。名前は1694年発行の8分利付国債が縁を金色にいろどったことに由来する。ロンドン証券取引所に上場されているイギリス中央政府発行の債券。さらに地方自治体,公社,およびイギリス連邦諸国の中央政府,地方自治体ならびに公社の債券をも含むことがある。ふつうは大蔵省証券(TB)を含まない。1850年代に創設されたコンソル公債が代表であったが,第1次大戦前には国債のほとんどがコンソルで占められたためである。
