Japanese: 片品[村] - かたしな

A village in Tone District, northeastern Gunma Prefecture. It borders Fukushima, Tochigi, and Niigata Prefectures, and is surrounded by famous mountains such as Mt. Shirane, Mt. Shibutsu, and Mt. Hotaka. It is the source of the Katashina River. Ozegahara in the north is the largest high-altitude marsh in Japan, and is well-known as a special natural monument. Lake Oze and Mt. Hiuchigatake attract many climbers. Blessed with rich nature, the area around Mt. Shirane is part of Nikko National Park, and the area around Oze is part of Oze National Park. National Route 120 runs from the Katashina River to Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, via Konsei Pass in the east, and Oshimizu, the end of the road of National Route 401, is known as a base for climbing around Oze. There is a lot of snowfall, and ski resorts have been opened at Marunuma and the foot of Mt. Hotaka, and tourism is thriving, including the hot springs scattered around the area. 391.76 ^km2 . 4,904 people (2010).
