...These sulfa drugs have the disadvantages of being poorly soluble in water, losing their antibacterial effect in the liver, and being prone to precipitation and stone formation in the urinary tract. Therefore, sulfisoxazole (abbreviated as SI), which is more soluble in water, and phthalylsulfathizole, a poorly absorbed type that is difficult to absorb and maintains its concentration in the intestine, have been developed for use in intestinal infections.
