Onnabori - Onnabori

Japanese:
Onnabori - Onnabori
<br /> The remains of an agricultural canal stretching from Kamiizumi-cho, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture to Kokusada-cho, Isesaki City. It was excavated along the 100m contour line at the southern foot of Mount Akagi, taking water from Furutone (Momonoki River) in Kamiizumi-cho, Akagi City, and running 12.75km to Nishi-Kokusada, Higashi Village, Sawa County. It is believed to have been excavated by the Fuchina clan, who ruled the area at the time, to redevelop the rice fields at the end of the Omama alluvial fan, which suffered devastating damage from the eruption of Mount Asama in 1108 ( Tennin 1). It was a large-scale agricultural canal, and is a valuable monument that tells of the development of rice fields that was promoted with a large amount of manpower. It was designated a national historic site in 1983 (Showa 58), and was further designated in 1997 (Heisei 9) because it is a valuable monument that tells of the development of rice fields that was promoted with a large amount of manpower, because it remains in its original form, and because important remains were confirmed during investigations. In order to preserve the existing remains and the raised areas, the land was made public, and 24,000 irises were planted and the Akabori Iris Garden was opened. From JR Ryomo Line Maebashi Station, take the Nagai Transportation Bus to "Ninomiya Jinja Ura" and walk for about 5 minutes.
